Are you dreaming big enough? Or have your passions taken a backseat to your daily responsibilities? A few years ago, I found myself very content with my situation. My family and I had established a good routine, and our schedules ran smoothly. I was content. Nothing needed to be messed with. Or so I thought.
Then, one day, God spoke a clear message to me about my future. His words excited me, and I wrote them down.
When the Holy Spirit speaks to us, it’s important to write this message down. All too often, we get busy with life. The message gets blurred or forgotten. Grab a journal and record those important words from God, pray over them, and be obedient to what God is saying.
A month later, the Lord started the process of reshaping my heart. This stirring felt a bit unsettling at first. Little by little, God revealed His plan and purpose in unexpected moments.
Pursuing God-Sized Dreams
One of these moments occurred as a friend shared how reading the book The Circle Maker had transformed the way she pursued God for larger dreams for her future. I read this book a few years earlier. After hearing the passion in her voice, I decided to pick it up again.
I couldn’t get past the words of chapter two. Here’s an excerpt from page 13:
Bold prayers honor God, and God honors bold prayers. God isn’t offended by your biggest dreams or boldest prayers. He is offended by anything less. If your prayers aren’t impossible to you, they are insulting to God. Why? Because they don’t require divine intervention…There is nothing God loves more than keeping promises, answering prayers, performing miracles, and fulfilling dreams. That is who He is. That is what He does. And the bigger the circle we draw, the better, because God gets more glory.
Now, to be clear, this isn’t a “name it and claim it” mentality. Our deepest dreams should be birthed from time spent with the Lord. As we spend time in God’s presence, we are able to discern His will. We also gain an understanding of how we fit into His ultimate plan. The author Mark Batterson explains this on page 14:
Drawing circles starts with discerning what God wants, what God wills. And until His sovereign will becomes your sanctified wish, your prayer life will be unplugged from its power supply…the goal is glorifying God by drawing circles around the promises, miracles, and dreams He wants for you.
My Wake Up Call
Talk about a slap in the face! The Holy Spirit opened my eyes to how small my dreams had become. Everything I was striving for was easily within my reach. This awareness created a hunger in me to pursue God for much larger dreams. I wanted to have the kind of dreams that would keep me up at night. The ones that would drive me to rise early in the morning with excitement.

Sure, I had pretty big dreams in the past. Dreams that were huge and seemed nearly impossible to fulfill without God’s working.
But I got busy.
My single years turned into married life. Soon afterwards, my house filled with the sweet sounds and chaos of children. Ministry kept us busy, and we were faithful to the work God put before us. Routine kicked in. Rhythm was good. Nothing needed to be messed with.
Until God moved…
When God Shakes Things Up In Our Lives
God did the unexpected in my heart. I was no longer content with where I was at. As a result, I began to seek the Lord in deeper ways.
Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”
I pressed in by getting specific and bold in my prayer life. God awakened my heart to fresh dreams. Passions and goals I once held closely resurfaced, and the Lord breathed new life into them. He is faithful!
The Holy Spirit spoke clearly to me on what I should do next in this reshaping process. My bold prayers resulted in the launch of this blog as the first step. But it didn’t stop there. Over the course of a year, the Lord walked me through the process of understanding how my unique gifts are to be used for His greater purpose.
Did you know the same is true for you?
God created you with an incredible purpose to fulfill while on this earth. He has gifted you with talents and abilities that are unique to you. As you utilize your gifts, you should do it in a way that glorifies your Creator and draws others to Him. This happens as you discover your purpose. Seek God for dreams that only He can fulfill. There is nothing more exciting than being used by God to build His Kingdom!
I’m really excited about the direction God has given me for Blessings By My Side.
I have a BIG announcement to make at the end of this article. We’ll get to that in a moment.
But first, this article is really about YOU. It’s easy to lose sight of your dreams and goals. Perhaps, you are overwhelmed by the demands of your daily schedule, and you can’t look much further past tomorrow. Maybe you feel lost in a particular season. Or you’ve allowed your current status to define or limit you. Whatever it is, your focus has shifted. Big dreams have been lost. And you, too, have settled for what’s within your reach.
Are You Dreaming Big Enough?
This leads me to ask: Are you dreaming big enough? Do the passions and goals in your heart require divine intervention to be fulfilled? If so, in what ways are you seeking Him to accomplish those dreams? Here are a few suggestions for you as you pursue Him:
- Be committed to praying bold prayers.
- Keep a prayer journal – Write down the promises and dreams God gives you. As you see God move, record it in the journal, also!
- Create action steps to move you forward and work diligently to accomplish your part.
- Be obedient to what God asks you to do.
- Take one step at a time, and continue to pray.
But what if you don’t have God-sized dreams?
- Ask the Lord to stir new dreams inside of you.
- Write down any dreams or goals you’ve had in the past (regardless of how small or impossible they may seem to you right now).
- Create a list of your abilities and talents – what are you especially good at doing? What creates excitement in you as you do it?
- Pray bold prayers over the items you have recorded. Seek God with all your heart.
- Keep praying until He shows you. Then, go at it with all your heart.

Pray Bold Prayers
Whether you are seeking God for a fresh dream or you are holding tightly to one He’s already given you, always remember: prayer is vital. It’s our communication line that allows us to hear His voice and be shaped by His loving hands. Find quiet moments to spend in His presence. Have an expectant heart for God to move in a way that only He can move. Let me leave you with this final quote from The Circle Maker (page 17):
If you do pray, all bets are off. You can live with holy anticipation because you never know how or when or where God is going to answer, but I promise you this: He will answer.
MY BIG ANNOUNCEMENT
I am very excited to announce the next step that God is calling me towards.
I AM REOPENING MY BABY SHOP!
In 2009, I started a business called Snugglebug Collection. I used my creative gifts to construct and sell custom baby items. Adorable bibs, burp cloths, nursing covers, ring slings, blankets, and so on – you name it, I made it. The idea came to me while snuggling my newborn. As a creative person, I decided to make a few items for my new baby. While out and about, other moms would stop me to ask where they could purchase these custom items. This made me think about the previous baby showers I had attended. How many times have you watched the mom-to-be receive duplicate items from her registry (and how deflating it was for the gift-giver who was excited to present her with those items)?
A desire grew inside of me to create quality products that stood out from the rest. Items as beautiful and unique as the little ones using them. As I connected with my customers, I enjoyed creating custom products in order to give them exactly what they wanted. How fun!
My business became a passion of mine, and I developed God-sized dreams to grow it larger.
About five years ago, though, God moved my family and I into a new and wonderful season. One that required complete focus, time, and energy towards it. In this season, I tucked away my business dreams and goals. I knew I was right where God wanted me. I also had confidence that He would direct me to reopen my shop when the time was right.
I’m excited to announce that time is now!
I have re-branded Snugglebug Collection into Blessings By My Side. On my site, you will continue to find encouraging words for godly living and parenting. You will also find adorable baby items to purchase for your family and loved ones. And in the near future, I will be adding additional products for family discipleship.
